Bind helps you memorize Scripture using AI coaching, spaced repetition, and optional voice features. This policy describes what we collect, how we use it, when we share it with third-party services (including xAI), and the choices you have.
Who we are
Bind is operated by the independent operator of the Bind app service. As of this policy’s date, no separately incorporated legal entity, registered business name, or postal / registered office address is listed in this policy. For privacy and data-protection purposes, that operator is the controller of personal information processed through Bind (the party that decides how and why the data is used).
Privacy requests, questions about this policy, and other personal-information requests (including access, a copy of data Bind holds for your account, or deletion questions beyond in-app Delete account) must be sent by email to support.bind.app@protonmail.com— the same mailbox used on our Support page. We do not publish a postal address for privacy correspondence. We aim to respond within a few business days for ordinary questions, and within 30 days for access or copy requests when practicable. For App Store–related account or purchase issues, you can also use Apple’s support channels where applicable.
Information we collect
Account identifiers: your authentication user id (from our auth provider), email address, and display name from Google or Sign in with Apple. This data is linked to your account so we can provide the app, sync progress, and enforce quotas — it is not collected as “Data Not Collected.”
Memorization data: saved verses, review history, study plans, chat messages, and quota usage.
Notification preferences: whether you enable study reminders. In a browser, nudges use the browser Notification API and only appear while a Bind tab is open. On iOS, opt-in local (on-device) reminders can alert when Bind is backgrounded or not an open web tab — they are not remote push / APNs and are not browser-only.
Payment and subscription data (dual rail): On the web, Stripe processes payments. On iOS, purchases go through the Apple App Store / StoreKit. In both cases we may store product identifiers, transaction identifiers, and subscription or entitlement status on our servers so we can unlock Premium and voice talk-time. We do not collect or store card numbers; Apple or Stripe handle payment credentials on their platforms.
Voice coach audio and sessions: When you use the Voice coach, microphone audio is streamed in realtime off-device to xAI (Grok) for speech understanding and coaching responses. Voice session metadata and transcripts may be stored to power the feature, show history, and manage talk-time. This is separate from Practice Say it, which uses on-device or browser speech recognition for oral practice grading and does not send live mic audio to xAI as a realtime voice coach session.
AI usage: text prompts and related study context may be sent to xAI (Grok) for chat, coaching, grading, and study planning, in addition to Voice coach as described above. Related study context can include the passage you are studying, recent messages in that conversation, and plan or review details needed for the request. See Sharing with xAI (Grok) below. Agreeing to this policy is not the in-app permission to send that content.
Product analytics and experiment events: we may log product-interaction or experiment-related events (for example, memory-engine experiment configuration and outcomes) to improve reliability and features. See Product analytics and experiments below.
How we use information
We collect the categories above from you when you use Bind, from Apple or Google when you sign in, and from Apple or Stripe when you purchase. We use that data to provide features, enforce quotas, process payments and restore purchases, improve reliability, and — when applicable — send purchase receipt emails. We do not sell personal information. We do not share it for advertising or for cross-app tracking, and Bind does not use the App Tracking Transparency prompt.
Where this policy says we share personal information with a named provider, that sharing is limited to operating Bind (authentication, hosting, storage, payments, transactional email, calendar connection you turn on, or the AI response you requested). We confirm that those providers are engaged to protect that data to the same or equal standard this policy states for the sharing: purpose-limited use to provide Bind, no sale by Bind, and no advertising use by Bind. Each provider publishes its own privacy policy, linked under Third-party services. Bind does not control those policies and does not claim a provider’s certifications as Bind’s own.
Sharing with xAI (Grok)
Bind uses xAI’s Grok models as a third-party AI service for chat, coaching, grading, and study planning, and for Voice coach realtime speech. xAI is a separate company. Its privacy policy is at https://x.ai/legal/privacy-policy.
What may be sent to xAI. When you use those features, Bind may send:
prompts and chat messages you submit;
related study context needed for that request, such as the passage you are studying, recent messages in that conversation, and study-plan or review details used for coaching, grading, or planning;
when you use Voice coach, microphone audio from that session, streamed in realtime, plus session instructions that can include the passage or plan you are practicing and recent transcript from that coaching session.
We do not send this content to xAI for advertising, and we do not sell it. Practice Say it uses on-device or browser speech recognition and does not send live microphone audio to xAI as a Voice coach session.
Purpose. xAI processes that content to generate the chat, coaching, grading, study-planning, or spoken Voice coach response you asked for.
In-app permission. This Privacy Policy and Bind’s Terms of Service describe the practice. They are not the permission. Before Bind sends prompts or study context to xAI, the app asks you to agree on a screen that names xAI and what may be shared. Before Voice coach sends microphone audio, the app asks again. The permission is an affirmative choice on that screen (Allow and continue, or Agree and continue). It is not a timer, and it is not agreement to this policy or the Terms by itself. If you choose Don’t allow, Bind does not send prompts or study context, and it does not open chat, coaching, grading, study planning, or Voice coach. Bind does not offer those features without sending the data described here to xAI. You can still allow sharing on that screen, or sign out. After you allow sharing, Settings includes Stop sharing with xAI, which clears the saved agreement and shows the permission screen again before anything further is sent. Settings also includes Stop Voice coach sharing after you have agreed to microphone sharing. You can skip Voice coach with Not now without agreeing to microphone sharing. This in-app explanation and permission is how Bind tells you what is shared, with whom, and asks before personal data is shared with a third-party AI service (App Store Guidelines 5.1.1(i) and 5.1.2(i)).
Training and retention (two layers)
Bind’s layer: Bind does not train AI models on your prompts, study context, Voice coach audio, or chat content. Bind may store chat messages and Voice coach session metadata and transcripts on Bind’s servers to provide history, progress, and talk-time, as described under What Bind keeps below.
xAI’s API layer: xAI’s consumer privacy policy states that it does not apply to data xAI processes on behalf of API customers. For content Bind sends through the API, retention follows xAI’s published API default unless xAI account settings provide otherwise. xAI’s API security documentation states that, by default, API requests and responses are stored encrypted at rest for 30 days for abuse auditing, that xAI does not train on that data, that the data is deleted after 30 days, and that xAI does not train on API inputs or outputs without the customer’s permission.
Zero Data Retention is an optional team setting in the xAI console. Bind’s app does not turn that setting on or off. This policy does not promise Zero Data Retention, and it does not claim that the setting is on or off for Bind’s xAI team. xAI publishes a Data Processing Addendum that is incorporated into xAI’s Enterprise Terms of Service (https://x.ai/legal/data-processing-addendum). This policy does not state that Bind has executed a separate negotiated addendum, a business associate agreement, or any certification. Those xAI practices can change, and this policy is not a warranty of them. See https://docs.x.ai/developers/faq/security and https://x.ai/legal/privacy-policy.
Where xAI processes it. Bind sends these requests to xAI’s default API host (api.x.ai), including Voice coach realtime. xAI states that this default endpoint does not guarantee a processing region. Bind does not use xAI’s United States regional endpoint and does not claim that processing stays in one country.
What Bind keeps. Chat messages and Voice coach session metadata and transcripts may be stored on Bind’s servers to provide history, progress, and talk-time. Deleting your account removes Bind’s copies as described in Memory data and account. Deleting your Bind account does not by itself guarantee that xAI has already discarded copies it holds under its own retention rules.
Your choices. The in-app agreement is saved on your account. It is required before Bind will send content to xAI for you. Later launches do not ask again until you stop sharing. Don’t allow on the first screen leaves chat, coaching, grading, study planning, and Voice coach off, and nothing is sent. Bind does not offer those features without this sharing. You can sign out from that screen. Signing out does not by itself clear an agreement that is already saved. Stop sharing with xAI in Settings clears the text agreement and the Voice coach agreement, and Bind shows the permission screen again before any further transmission. Stop Voice coach sharing clears only the microphone agreement. Choose Not now on Voice coach and Bind does not send microphone audio. To remove Bind’s copies of your account data, use Delete account. Deleting the account does not by itself guarantee that xAI has already discarded copies it holds.
Bind Habit and Screen Time
Bind Habit is an optional iOS companion app for adult self-control on your own device. Monthly Premium includes Bind Habit. Sign in with Apple in Bind Habit uses the same Bind account as the Bind app.
When you authorize Screen Time and pick apps or categories, iOS keeps opaque Screen Time tokens on your device. We do not upload a list of blocked apps (names or bundle identifiers) to our servers. Those tokens stay on-device and are not sent to Bind or our processors. You can remove Screen Time authorization at any time.
Calendar scheduling
Optional Premium calendar scheduling can connect Apple Calendar (EventKit) and/or Google Calendar. Bind is not a calendar client; local Bind reminders stay whether or not you connect a calendar.
EventKit access is on-device after explicit Connect — not at install, and not while the flag is off.
If you connect Google Calendar, Google Calendar refresh tokens are stored server-side. The browser and JWT cannot read them.
Disconnect, memory wipe, and account delete remove calendar-scheduling preferences, Bind event handles, and Google tokens. We do not store calendar contents or busy intervals as a product dataset (handles, tokens, and preferences only).
Product analytics and experiments
We may log product-interaction events and experiment configuration outcomes (for example, memory-engine experiment assignments and related review or grading instrumentation) so we can measure reliability, compare feature behavior, and improve the product. These events are used for product improvement, not sold as advertising data or used to build third-party advertising profiles.
Email communications
When Resend is configured, we may send purchase/receipt emails related to Premium or voice talk-time. We do not send marketing blasts or daily due-verse digests.
Memory data and account
In Settings you can Delete account to permanently remove your Bind account and associated app data (including memorization progress, chat history, calendar-scheduling preferences, Bind event handles, Google tokens if present, and similar content linked to your user). After deletion you are signed out and cannot use the same account unless you create a new one. Memory wipe remains a separate control: wiping memorization-related data (for example saved verses, review history, and similar learning content) and calendar-scheduling preferences, Bind event handles, and Google tokens does not delete your account, sign-in identity, Premium tier, voice credits, or billing records needed to honor subscriptions and purchases.
Deleting your Bind account does not automatically cancel a paid subscription on either payment rail. Cancel renewals on the rail where you purchased if you no longer want to be billed:
iOS (App Store / StoreKit): subscriptions and in-app purchases are managed by Apple. Cancel or manage renewals in iOS Settings or App Store subscription settings, and request refunds through Apple when applicable.
Web (Stripe): account deletion does not cancel a live Stripe subscription. Cancel or manage web subscriptions via the billing portal in Settings when available, or contact support for help with web billing.
Data retention
We retain account identifiers and memorization data while your account is active. After you use Delete account, we remove associated app data as described in Memory data and account. Some residual copies may persist briefly in backups or operational logs until those systems rotate. Billing and transaction records (for example product or transaction identifiers and subscription status) may be retained as required for fraud prevention, taxes, accounting, or platform obligations (Apple and Stripe as applicable). How long xAI keeps API inputs follows xAI’s published API default unless xAI account settings provide otherwise, as described under Sharing with xAI (Grok). Deleting your Bind account does not by itself guarantee that xAI has already discarded copies it holds under that default.
Your rights
You can change your display name and timezone in Settings. Bind does not currently offer an in-app download or export of your full account data. To request a copy of the personal information Bind holds for your account, email support.bind.app@protonmail.com with the subject line “Privacy data copy request.” We aim to respond within 30 days when practicable. For other access or deletion questions beyond the in-app controls, use the same mailbox.
To delete personal information Bind stores for your account, use Settings Delete account, described in Memory data and account. Memory wipe is a separate control and does not delete the account. To revoke consent to share data with xAI, use Don’t allow before you agree, or Stop sharing with xAI in Settings after you agree. Stopping sharing shows the permission screen again before the next transmission. Chat, coaching, grading, study planning, and Voice coach stay off until you allow sharing. Bind does not offer those features without sending the data described in this policy to xAI. You can decline Voice coach with Not now, or use Stop Voice coach sharing in Settings after you have agreed.
Children's privacy
Bind is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. We do not knowingly send personal information of a child under 13 to xAI. We do not collect ages or birthdates, and Bind has no separate age-verification or parental-consent flow for AI features. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information to us, contact support.bind.app@protonmail.com and we will take appropriate steps to delete that information.
International transfers
Data may be processed in the United States and other countries where our providers operate, including Supabase, Vercel, xAI, Apple, Google, Stripe, and Resend. By using Bind, you understand that your information may be transferred to, stored in, or processed in countries other than the one where you live, which may have different data-protection laws. xAI’s default API host does not guarantee a processing region, as described under Sharing with xAI (Grok).
Third-party services
Bind uses the providers below. Scripture text shown in the app is read from Bind’s stored verse cache. This policy does not name a separate live Bible-text vendor. What Bind may send to xAI, and the separate in-app permission, are described under Sharing with xAI (Grok).
We may update this policy. When we do, we change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. For material changes to how Bind shares personal information with a third-party AI service (including xAI), we will provide additional notice when practicable — for example an in-app notice or an email to the address on your account. That notice describes the change; it is not by itself a new App Store 5.1.2 permission. The in-app permission to send content to xAI remains separate from this page. A change to this page does not replace that permission. Bind may still require a fresh in-app Allow if sharing practices change in a way that needs a new affirmative choice.
